question by Mike M : What's the point of buying an engagement ring and makes an elaborate proposal to my girlfriend I'm in my mid 20's?. I have from my girlfriend for 6 years. I love everything about her, she is funny, smart, sweet, nice ... it's all for me. I want to spend the rest of my life with her, and I want to ask her if she would marry me and be my wife. All my mates (male and female) are telling me that I buy her a ring worth at least 2 month's salary need! I can not afford it, and I do not want to go into debt at all. Why do I need to give her a ring at all? I'm not buying their love, nor am I trying to bribe them to my wife. I'm not really the type of guy to think a well thought out proposal either - it's just not me. I would rather ask them: "Hey, you might think to get married?" or "Hey want to marry you?". I do not think that I do with shiny things for them to bribe me to get married ... it's just a gem ... but everyone tells me that I need to do to buy her a beautiful diamond ring. I disagree ... you can just ask ... but go to have something at some point for a Ring Pop ... even if it's just the wedding rings ... and what about them ... what they want ... whatever it is, make sure you get close ... It's not about what you spend, and it is not corruption ... it is a sign of love and if you think your appreciation for her and the love.
