Buy an engagement ring at a "Mom & Pop" Jewler always better?

question of bluenote12482 : Is buying an engagement ring at a "Mom & Pop" Jewler always better I'm starting to look for an engagement ring for my gf. She advises me not to buy her ring to a "chain" store or a mall store. It proposes jelwer a "home" to go or a "mom and pop" type shop. Any suggestions on the subject? The reason I chain stores and large retailers like better, probably because they used to store out of business as much as the smaller type compared. Plus you can get better deals?
